在半夜潜入西奥多诺特的办公室，也许不是一个绝佳的主意，但仍然值得一试。值班的老高尔每天晚上十点就开始喝他那瓶威士忌，不出十分钟就呼呼大睡，哪怕是原子弹在他头顶爆炸了他也醒不过来。
诺特，分局数字和纸质档案管理室的管理员。一个不错的同事和朋友，固然他加入的那个斯莱特林兄弟会（Brotherhood of Slytherin）听上去很大男子主义，并且有点蠢，但并不妨碍赫敏偶尔跟他吃一两顿午餐。最近她用一座附带针孔摄像头的银蛇工艺品，换到了电子档案系统的账户名和密码。一笔不亏的交易。
当赫敏按照原定计划一路避开摄像头，带上橡胶手套，打开西奥多电脑下载资料的时候，她觉得自己甚至有潜力去当一名特工。无痕骇入他的电脑，对她来说不算难事，毕竟她是警校那一届中为数不多选修了信息工程与网络安全技术的警员，但是国安局级别的防火墙就不是那么好弄的了。她不想冒这个险。
其实她早就想来这里一趟了，但是她一直没有这个权限。
在父母遭遇枪击身亡后，赫敏花了四年时间才进到LAPD，又花了一年时间到处给人打下手当跑腿儿的，只因为她哪怕是第一名毕业，在现场也依然还是被老鸟们认为是菜鸡，必须要多「磨合磨合」。她还是证人计划的一员时没办法接触到案卷，而如今她父母的案件已锁，想要查看案卷得重启调查，还得填写几十份申请报告，以阐述为什么。另外，即便她已经接手了一些重大系列案件，并且证明了自己的能力，还是依旧被排除在一些案件之外。
那是一些表面上彼此之间看似毫无关联的案件。过去几年里她废寝忘食地读了每一件能读到的卷宗，搜集了帕萨迪纳上百起大小各种性质的犯罪资料，直觉告诉她，这事儿没那么简单。
于是她开始私下里收集相关的信息。不仅限于媒体的报道，还有网站上的谣言，不起眼讨论版里一言略过的都市传说。实际上，出大部分人所料的是，都市传说比它看起来要更能够提供一些信息。
她沿着那些饼干碎屑一路搜寻，在经过无数的删除和筛选之后，她觉得她或许得到了一个答案。
可能她宁愿不知道那个答案。

She needed this, the enjoyment, the pure pleasure, nothing to do with the misery, but to pull her out of the endlessness mire of the life to have a brief gasp.
Hermione couldn't stop herself from arching upwards, knowing that she was in a small screened tent, her body was covering by scarlet mist. At the moment she lay on Bellatrix's shoulder, her back that no one had ever met was exposing to the air. Bellatrix's right hand rubbing her bones, the left one exploring her rainforest, she is an extremely daring adventurer and imaginative creator. A true leader.
"Now, girl, you must learn to be patient. It's patience that doubles the joy."
Bellatrix let go of her and picked up a flat round object in a small box beside them, the warm object slid into Hermione's pool, smoother than expected, causing ripples and tremors. Her hands pulled Hermione's melting head down, devouring her song without any mercy.
Patience, chickie, patience. She said.
